Attorney Michael Baker concentrates his practice on estate planning, business planning, elder law services, and wills, trusts and probate. His extensive experience as a financial advisor and as a lawyer with a Boston-based estate planning firm, allows him to offer clients an integrated approach to financial planning, estate planning, business planning and asset protection. His background includes advising closely held large and small businesses and individuals.

As an estate attorney, Michael regularly works with retirees, helping them develop sound estate plans that address tax liabilities, long-term care issues and asset protection. He creates various financial and legal strategies for clients to pass wealth onto heirs, to provide asset protection, to settle their estate according to their wishes, and to reduce their tax burden. He readily collaborates with the client’s accountant, investment advisor and insurance professional. In addition, he helps high net worth individuals with sophisticated estate planning and wealth transfer techniques, including revocable trusts, irrevocable life insurance trusts, family limited partnerships (FLPs) and limited liability companies (LLCs).

Prior to becoming an estate attorney, Michael was an independent financial planning advisor, providing integrated financial, estate and investment planning strategies to individual and business clients. During this time, he regularly advised businesses on their benefit plans, how to retain key employees and on crafting business succession plans, including employer-sponsored retirement and insurance plans, which were tailored to meet the needs and the financial goals of the companies.

For business owners and high net worth individuals, Michael develops customized investment and risk protection strategies to facilitate a client’s accumulation, preservation and transfer of wealth. He keeps up-to-date on all of the changing regulations and laws on estates, trusts, finances, taxes and nursing home regulations.
Attorney Baker also served as a lobbyist for the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants and was a legislative aide in Washington, D.C. for U.S. Senator Christopher Dodd of Connecticut for three years.
A graduate of Syracuse University with a B.A. in Political Science, Policy Studies and Economics, Attorney Baker received his law degree from the Suffolk University Law School. He was admitted to the Massachusetts Bar in 2005.

Personal and Civic Service:
Michael lives with his wife, Ann-marie, and their three sons, Nicholas, William and Daniel, on the South Shore in Cohasset. While a resident of Holliston, Massachusetts he was elected to the Planning Board of Holliston on a write-in ballot in 2008.
